Recognize the invitation. More times than not, there is one. Underneath the small talk, there is always something going on…always a craving for human connection.
I heard it in a voice after class last night. Life gets heavy sometimes. As we go through life, we are tempted and often taught to hide our pain. Perhaps, we do not want to see the fear in another’s eyes or to cause them undue pain. Perhaps, we wish to avoid difficult emotions in ourselves like shame and guilt. But, by exposing ourselves, we face ourselves…therein lies the gift and the reality:
I see your divinity, but I embrace your humanity. You need not sentence yourself to solitary confinement — alone in this human experience, bearing your pain or struggling through life’s lessons alone. What you are going through, we are all going through…at some level…because, we all face the same terminal condition. The degree of denial is the only difference.
When we close ourselves off, we increase our pain tolerance while limiting our recovery. We remove ourselves from the vast resources we have in each other. You are worthy of sharing. You are worthy of uplifting. You are worthy of soothing. You are me and I am you. Like two snowflakes, we possess a common construct within a unique expression. Drifting down toward the earth, snowflakes cannot escape their true essence. And, neither can we.
Sharing is an instrument of healing. You will see it feels good to be heard. And, on the other side, it feels good to be entrusted. Accept the invitation. The invitation to live (love) more deeply.
